The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees met yesterday to discuss this year's budget and some new development projects in Mt. Pleasant and Saginaw.
Due to an enrollment drop of 650 students on CMU's campus this fall, the budget has been cut by one million dollars compared with last year's budget.
The budget cuts will come mostly out of the general fund and will the major cuts come by way of attrition.
The board also approved a new Medical education center in Saginaw that will serve as the main center for third and fourth year medical students as they go through hands-on training.
David Burdette is Vice President for Finance and Administrative services.
"The board approved CMU to build an approximate 25 million dollar education center located on the Covenant Campus in Saginaw, that is phase one of a probably several phase development as we work with Covenant and St. Mary's," Burdette said.
At this week's board meeting, another new development was in its final phases.
It's a partnership between the university and Lodgco to bring a new hotel to the south end of campus, near Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
