Fall is the right time to be wine tasting in Michigan and each year there are more and more wineries and vineyards to explore.

The number of wineries has tripled and grape acreage has doubled in the past decade.

Gordon Wenk is chairman of the Grape and Wine Industry Council. He said the expansion has helped build the state's economy.

"It's the production of wine, it's the growing of the grapes, it's the tourism and the things associated with that and all of those things combined to make the wine industry more than a 300 million dollar impact on Michigan's economy."

The industry is also gaining global notoriety, the state's riesling has won multiple awards and is one of the top sellers.
