The economy, both nationwide and here in Michigan, continues to challenge residents not only to pinch pennies and cut corners but to innovate and create.
Craig Cottrill is a 60-year old real estate speculator and developer. He has designed, built, and sold spec houses in some of the most dramatic settings that Harbor Springs, Good Hart, Cross Village and Sturgeon Bay have to offer.
And so Cottrill, like so many other Americans, has had to dig deep and reinvent himself. Fortunately for him, the real estate business is not the only business he knows.
Cottrill has a bar-tested, gritty voice reminiscent of John Hiatt, and his guitar licks have a certain Matthew Sweet quality to them. He has recently released his first CD North to Paradise, with 12 songs about Northern Michigan and the events in his life that have transpired here.
Cottrill plays gigs all around Northern Michigan, sometimes with a band and sometimes performing solo. He's even co-founded a production company to try and record and promote other Northern Michigan artists. He's being as innovative, resourceful, and entrepreneurial as he can, while also staying true to his heart and as passions, all while he waits for the real estate market to come back around.
