A Northern Michigan brain injury rehab center is expanding it's care to military veterans. It's the first time in history that the federal government has asked private facilities to offer long term care to military patients.
The VA sought out Origami Brain Injury Rehab Center in Grayling to offer long-term residential care to those in need.
Tammy Hannah is the rehabilitation director at Origami. She said VA has never before offered patient care outside its own facilities.
"Which has been a disadvantage to a lot of the veterans and their family members because it is quite a distance from their home. So what they've done, considering the number of traumatic brain injuries that have been sustained by vets they've opened the doors to 21 facilities."
Hannah said patients will still receive quality care. Origami specializes in assisted living and brain injury rehabilitation.
