The U.S. Senate has passed the 2013 Farm Bill. Among the provisions, the bill encourages conservation of wetlands and grasslands.

Officials said the conservation provisions are tremendous steps forward in slowing the wetland and habitat loss.

They said conservation can maintain and improve farmland; a benefit in the unpredictable profession of farming's.

Gildo Tori is the Director of Public Policy for the Ducks Unlimited Great Lakes Atlantic Region.

"Agriculture and farming is a very complicated, risky and forecasting type of business. These guys need to know what's on the table governing their business. So I think it would be in the best interest in agriculture and conservation for the legislature, for the House and Senate to get this done quickly," Tori said.

The U.S. Senate has passed its version of the bill. The House is scheduled to bring the bill up for a floor vote next week.

The deadline for the bill to take effect is September 30th.
