The Michigan Recycling Coalition is making the "businesses case" for recycling during May 7-9th annual conference in Bay City.

Officials say Michigan is lagging an average of 16% behind other great lakes states when it comes to recycling rates.

Kerrin O'Brien is with the Michigan recycling coalition, she said the state has shown support in helping to grow its recycling industry.

"Moving that recycling rate up is good for Michigan's economy, it creates jobs, and it creates ready resources that will attract manufacturers to the state." O'Brien said.

O'Brien said recycling is also good for business by decreasing waste costs.
