The Michigan Liquor Control Commission is giving communities until Dec.15 to notify the state of whether they plan to adhere to the new law allowing communities to serve liquor on Sunday mornings.
One Northern Michigan community has already decided to go along with the new law. Kawkawlin Township has announced that it will allow the sale of liquor on Sunday mornings.
Dennis Braigel is the Township Supervisor for Kawkawlin. He says so far there have not been many negative reactions to the decision.
"We haven't heard anybody that's against, there hasn't been a lot of support for it or against it. It's kind of a neutral thing we'll see how it goes" said Briagel.
Braigel said the decision was made after getting feedback from area business owners.
"A lot of the places like golf courses and stuff. If they're having an outing or something and want to go golfing on a Sunday morning and want to have a refreshment they could have it then," said Braigel. "If they're doing their grocery shopping a lot of people get down to the stores early Sunday mornings when there's no crowd and if they want to buy a case of beer for a party during the week they can do it and not have to make a special trip after noon."
While Kawkawlin said it will allow the Sunday liquor sales, Bay City has announced that it will opt out of the new law.
