Governor Rick Snyder is calling Washington's failure to prevent the sequester a quote "mess," and said it could hurt Michigan's economic recovery.

The governor made his comments on C-SPAN television. He was in the nation's capital for a meeting of the National Governors Association.

He said governors around the country have been dealing with their own budget issues, and Washington needs to do the same.

"Probably most of us in that room had to deal with budget cuts in the last two or three years, larger than what they're talking about, and we all got the job done. And the question is why can't it be done here in Washington in a more effective, thoughtful way." Snyder said.

Snyder said Congress's failure to trim the deficit and pass a budget could put Michigan's economic recovery on hold.

According to the White House, if congress doesn't avert the sequester, Michigan will lose tens of millions of dollars in funding for education, job search assistance, meals for seniors and environmental protection.
